130b: Advanced Modeling

Final portfolio renders of all my Maya work from this semester, including assets from the Bloody Mary project. Something new I learned this semester was modeling a high-poly model, and then turning the high-quality information into a normal map to put onto a low-poly model.

117a Final Project: Gary Soto Treehouse

I have more work I want to do before I call them done, but... here's what I turned in! Very proud of my 117a class, we all improved so much this semester.
With so much focus on the trees, it sort of turned into a second chance at my 113B forest painting, which I struggled a lot with.

Color Comps! Color palettes inspired by Tarzan. Thank you Disney.

Mass Effect doodles

Ain't nobody messin with Marco Shepard and his crew.
Wanted to try something a little different than my usual style. Skipping the lineart step makes things a lot faster.

Figure Drawing Again

Some selections from last night's figure drawing... I can tell I'm getting more flowy on the tablet, which is nice.

For comparison, here's the same model (I think), from over the summer. So stiff D:

117a Kitchen

For this project, we read a few short stories by Gary Soto about his childhood, and then had to depict either his kitchen or garage as if it were vis dev for turning it into a live action movie. The parts that stuck with me were of his mother working in the kitchen, so that's what I decided to go with.

There are things I want to fix, but this is what I turned in. I'm proud of it! Though I enjoy rendering, coming up with a layout out of nowhere is difficult for me, so this project was a good challenge. We'll see if I can put to use what I learned here on the next project!

117a Still Life: First assignment!

This was fun! I forgot how much I missed digital painting.
We'll see how I feel about it in a few weeks.

My modeling final for this semester!

This version of Robin is the Young Justice design by Phil Bourassa

I want to add texturing and some color variation so he doesn't look so plastic-y. Still, I had fun working on him and I learned a lot, so I call success!

Pokemon Project: Victreebel

Amy Kim and Peter Le have been putting together a Pokemon art gallery based on the original 151. All proceeds go to charity.

The Pokemon were randomly assigned, and I got Victreebel! I was surprised to have so much fun working with acrylics again. If you can't tell from the photo, I used metallic copper paint in some places. Got it a while ago on a whim, and never got a chance to use it until now. She's a Shiny!
Thanks to Anh for composition help.

The gallery runs from April 29-May 17th, and here is more information if you want to check it out:

Random art dump

Thought I'd toss up some art I've done outside of school recently!
Christmas present for a friend, based on an old joke.
Commission, based on Dragon Age characters.
An attempt to draw characters from the game Mass Effect in the style of Kim Possible (Stephen Silver). Kim Possible was a big influence on my style, and a big inspiration for getting me drawing seriously in high school.

Animation/Illustration Portfolio: Fall 2012

My more current A/I portfolio, updated at the end of last semester.

Design Portfolio: Spring 2013

A different portfolio I put together to showcase my skills in website editing, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
